Green Clothing Company to Recyle 100%

Check out this amazing clothing company! Patagonia, headquartered in California, USA, plans to recycle 100% of its merchandise by 2010. The company initiated the Common Threads Garment Recycling Program in 2005 by which customers can return Capilene Performance Baselayer clothes they no longer use. The garments are then made into new items by a fiber manufacturer. Patagonia also recycles its fleece, as well as 100% cotton T-shirts, and some polyester jackets, nylong clothes, and shorts. Since the start of the Common Threads project, 6000 KG of apparel has been recycled and even more has been collected. By autumn 2009, 80% of its clothing will be recyclable through the program. Wouldn't it be great if all clothing company can do the same? Way to go, Patagonia!

A Friendship That Transcends Boundaries

video

This is an amazing video. You can't help but be touched by the love between these two friends. Wow. Imagine what our world would be like if all of us treat one another the same way. Who says that animals are not sentient? They have feelings of love, friendship, loyalty, and trust. (Watch that tummy rub!) Sadly, we kill them for our own selfish reasons. Some people still kill elephants for their tusk. Just for the ivory and we destroy such a gentle loving creature! Yes, some countries kill dogs for meat. And how's that any different from any other animals, like a cow, a pig or a chicken? Let's spread the love and respect all life.

Thanks CBS for reporting this, and thanks to the friends of friends of my best friend who sent this to me.

Russia bans the hunting of baby seals

Whoo-hoo! Some good news to share: Russia has banned the hunting of baby seals in areas around the White Sea. Thank God, no more heartless and cruel killing of these harmless animals just so we humans can look good.

Honestly, how can we rationalize with our conscience that it's okay to wear the skins of murdered innocent animals? Imagine if it's our own skins? This reminds me of Nazi Germany when human skins were used to make lamp shades and who knows what else. As a race, we were horrified that the hair of Jews killed in experiments were used to make rugs, etc. So how can we condone the practice of killing animals just for aesthetics? I just can't get past that.

Hallelujah and God bless Russia for prohibiting this God-awful practice!

What's up with Prez Obama

I'm a fan of President Obama, and I really hope he's doing what he says he will do. I'm already disappointed that he's sending troops to Afghanistan. And this AIG thing, it's uncool that big banks and corporations get bailed out when middle class Americans suffer. I really hope Prez Obama does the right thing for this country.

The Truth of Nursery Rhymes

Hi, folks. It's been a while since I've last updated this blog. Life just kinda takes off on its own without you looking sometimes. But I'm back with a funny cartoon that just cracked me up. Enjoy :)

"Words of a Piglet"

When I read this poem, my tears wouldn't stop falling.

I hurt for the little piglet and his anguished mother.

Reading it again and again I started to wonder...

What are we doing to these beings - so innocent and loving?!

Words of a Piglet

A poem by Supreme Master Ching Hai

The day I met you first

Was the day of my birth

Pink and round, me oh so plump

With Mom I gaily frolicked.

Lovingly you looked at me

Praising, “Oh, so round, what a cutie!”

Every day you came by to visit

Bringing cool water and delicious veggie treats.

Mommy and I were so touched

Your kindness worth more than gold

I lived a peaceful life

Under your care and protection

Growing more plump with each passing day

Just eat, rest and play…

So lovely was this early morn

As clouds were drifting across the sky

Cuddling together, Mommy and I

Unaware of the befalling tragedy!

Two brawny young men

Strong like tigers and elephants

Squashed my tiny body

Flat into a cage of horror!

There was no way to escape!

O God, what purgatory was this?

I wailed in fear and terror

Mom, oh Mom, please save me!

Oh caretaker,

please come protect me quickly!

Rescue my life, I’m still at a tender age!

Mom was crying out in sorrow

Tears of desperation filling her eyes

The immense Heavens cannot contain

This horrendous emotional pain!

My caretaker turned away

Hands busy counting a stack of money

Haplessly I rolled around in the car trunk

Breaking heart more painful

than bodily misery!

The two young men bantered:

“This piglet will be so tasty!

Tomorrow we’ll slaughter him

To celebrate the birth

of the wife’s newborn baby!”

Oh, how ironic this life

My soul is shattered

Tears flow in my heart

Like blood running in rivulets.

I thought you loved me

Nurturing me to maturity

But all this was a sham

For you, it’s just profit and gain!

Tomorrow my body will be cut to pieces

My flesh and bones

turned to sheer torture

Just so people can laugh in merriment

At their happy feast and gathering.

To your children and others’ too

I wish them all long lives

So the family can stay together

Not endure the same fate as mine…

I pray the whole family lives nobly

To be human in many lifetimes

And never be reborn as pigs

Paying forever karmic debts!

Alas, good-bye life…

I ache for my gentle suffering mother

In tears I am overcome…

Oh, Mommy! Mom…Mom…

Healthy food for the disadvantaged kids

Kudos to Heather Mills, Paul McCartney's former wife, for donating 1 million dollars of healthy vegan food to New York's poorest neighborhoods. (see http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080920/ap_en_mo/people_heather_mills) Kids this year in Hunts Point are in for a great treat - tons of healthy soy burgers, soy dogs, and yummy vegan cutlets that make my mouth waters just thinking about it. Hmmmm yum! Let's hope this will start a new trend in the Bronx - eating healthy and with a clear conscience.

Welcome back to school, kids, and happy munching!

Are Aliens Vegetarians?

I just had a wacky thought last night. Are aliens vegetarians? I mean, I heard or read somewhere (and please don't quote me on this) that on their planets, the aliens have no room to grow plants or even raise animals. Can you imagine? They don't even have pets! If that is the case, then the aliens must be vegetarians because there are no animals on their planets! I was thinking, too, at their level of development where they can traverse an entire galaxy at the blink of an eye, they have probably come up with a better way of getting nourishment.

So, what do they eat? Are they solarians? They just absorb the sunlight to survive? Are they breatharians? Just breathing in air? Well, certainly not oxygen, I guess, because I read the article about that Russian kid who said he used to live on Mars a long time ago before its destruction. He said that the Martians don't breathe oxygen because it makes them age. Whoa! Imagine that! There is some sort of "air" out there that would retain our youth forever? Give me some of that in a portable biodegradable can. I believe he said they lived to be hundreds of years old. Wow! They're still there now, just underground. So, I guess the Martians don't eat meat then? The remaining ones are those who managed to escape the destruction of their civilization on Mars' surface. So, what do they eat?

For sure the aliens must be on some sort of diet that is a lot more pure for their body. Well, do they even have to eat? Anyone with any ideas? I'd like to hear it.

... hallo... out there?
